It may be obvious to some but Apple have revealed that the hugely popular Angry Birds is the most downloaded paid app in the UK. Facebook also tops the charts but in the free downloads category, showing that social media and gaming show no signs of slowing down in the popularity category. Apple took the decision to publish these figures whilst they celebrate the 25 billionth download.
Capitalising on it’s success, Angry Birds HD for iPad also appears in the top ten for iPad apps but this time falling one place off the top spot behind Apple’s own Pages application. ITV player, Skype for iPad, 4oD and eBay all appear in the free charts for iPad.
Other successes to appear in the paid iPhone app charts include WhatsApp messenger coming a close second to Angry birds followed by Doodle Jump, Ninja and another Angry Birds version called seasons. In the free iPhone charts Facebook is followed by Skype, eBay and the incredible Google Earth.
Whilst these lists make interesting reading, it does show what a nation of gamers and TV addicts we are, with 3 TV catch up apps appearing in the top 10 of free iPad apps. Meanwhile 16 of the top 25 paid iPhone apps are games, showing customers appetites to feed their gaming habits using the iOS platform.
All lists provided by Apple are based on downloads rather than revenues generated, however Apple have interestingly left out the top grossing apps of all time.
