Apple customers have collectively downloaded 25 billion apps from the AppStore, the company has announced on it’s webpage, that’s more than three apps for every single person in the world.
With such a massive number of downloads reached, it signals just what a huge appetite consumers have for mobile applications and proves just how powerful apps can be by reaching so many people.
People with iOS devices are downloading an ever increasing number of apps. A study carried out last year concluded each iOS owner downloads an average of 60 apps each. The same study carried out in 2008 showed an average of 50, proving the appetite for mobile applications is growing rapidly.
Increasing app downloads and growing device sales actually pose a problem for the consumer, should you buy an iPhone because you want to be part of the growing app community or do you download apps now that you have an iPhone? Either way, they are both helping each other to grow in their individual sectors, and only last year Apple published figures of $5.4 billion for combined iTunes, iBook and AppStore purchases.
Whether the AppStore is driving device sales is unknown but what these studies and figures show is that growing app demand and growing mobile device penetration have served Apple fantastically well since it’s launch.
Apple are yet to announce the winner of their $10,000 gift card for the person who is Mr or Mrs 25 Billion, but compared to $5.4 billion you’d have to say the bigger winner here is Apple.
